Paraluman

paraluman

Embrace the muse,

and give yourself completely

to your art;

do not hold back,

and do not settle for less.

Often the muse

will not respond;

for she’s a force to be

reckoned with,

the embodiment of magic,

the soul of your art.

Don’t keep her locked up,

set her free to dance

and she will create the most

exquisite things;

believe in her and

she will inspire you.

Keep a steady head,

as she’s a dizzying dream,

but somehow makes sense.

  3. I thoroughly enjoyed this piece…and it made me wonder about muses generally. Must they always be women? Do women view muses as women, or are they sometimes men?

    For me the muse is an elusive “it”…at times it’s women, at times men…sometimes humanity itself.

    Thank you for the thought provoking words this morning. Earned a follower!

    1. I actually googled it and the dictionary definition of muse is “a woman, or a force personified as a woman, who is the source of inspiration for a creative artist” or each of nine goddesses, daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne 😛 In this poem I tried to sort of make it seem as though it could be an actual woman or something more abstract, but personified as a woman 🙂 so it kind of seems like a lover, but sometimes it sounds like a thought, or a source of inspiration that isn’t a human.
      Aww thank you so much!!
