Thanks to Impossibly Real for the suggestion!
My favourite TV series would have to be Orange Is The New Black. I’ve only started watching it, but I’ve been binge watching it so now I’m on season 2 trying to catch up with the rest of the world who are on season 4. So if you don’t watch it (you really should!), it’s about life in a women’s prison. There’s a whole lot of bullying, sex, drugs, racism… you name it, it’s probably on the show. The characters really compliment each other even though they’re secretly at each other’s throats most of the time, plotting revenge and making it hard for everyone else to live peacefully in the prison. But it’s not a serious prison show like (show), it’s kind of a comedy but not, because it can be really funny at times.
Every episode is about life in prison and then goes on to show how one woman lived before she went to prison and what she did to get in. It’s pretty rough. It shows their stories and their challenges before and during prison, and how they are trying to rebuild their lives. But they are pretty much all first-time offenders of non-violent crimes – it’s a low-security prison. The prison they are in, Litchfield, is kind of a terrible prison – there’s a money budget which doesn’t seem to be doing much for the prison itself but being used by the authorities for new cars etc. It’s a prison filled with empty promises used to give the inmates hope for a better life after where they will supposedly return to society as contributors.
The main character Piper Chapman willingly goes to prison to avoid a long sentence. She and her ex-girlfriend Alex, end up in the same prison years later for being a part of a drug cartel. Piper is torn between her fiancé Larry and Alex who she hasn’t seen since they broke up years before ending up in prison. Larry is struggling in real life being away from Piper and is uncomfortable when Piper reveals she’s in prison with Alex.
Anyway, I won’t go into the rest because you might want to watch it, it’s on Netflix. But yeah, I just really really love this show because it’s so genuine and eye opening and the characters will make you feel all the feels.
Let me know down in the comments what your favourite TV shows are and why, and would you recommend them? Thanks for reading.
